The old twisted, knotted pine in this photograph is referred to as a “bull” pine. And, of course, the large, antlered elk is also called a “bull” elk, thus the title for this photograph. Although the best feature about this photograph is the captured light. On rare occasions the setting or rising sun will find a gap between the clouds and the horizon intensifying the subjects in that light, the “spotlight effect.
