This happened spring of 2022, while waiting for wolves or bears to show up at the annual feast near Blacktail Ponds. The Eight Mile wolf pack fed on bison that had fallen through the ice over the winter.

A grizzly bear had also been in the area, taking his turn at the dinner table. Late one evening the Rescue Creek wolf pack came in from the east. I’m sure they could smell the bison carcasses and the other wolf pack. This is the first time I had witnessed 2 packs so close to each other. The Rescue Creek pack seemed confident and even cocky. They scanned the horizons before proceeding.
