One morning as I waited in the quiet shade of a bristly pine, I saw a flash of blond hair beyond some trees along a swollen spring river. Then instantly another flash appeared, and then another. It was a grizzly and three blond faced cubs emerging from the forest and approaching the meadow next to the water. I could hear my heart pounding as I looked through my viewfinder at the smallest grizzly cubs I had ever seen! 
 
The five of us spent over an hour together, and finally my luck broke through, the mother grizzlylifted her great head. I was rewarded in a fraction of a second, after eight long days of solitary vigil, although some might call it patience, skill, and even a little bit of luck.
