Just outside of Yellowstone I spotted Venus following the setting sun in the west during a rumbling thunderstorm. It was dark enough to do long exposures, so, I pointed my camera in anticipation of a strike

and held my shutter open with a remote.


It is difficult to capture a full lightning strike from “cloud to ground.” Needless to say, I was ecstatic when I captured that instant with planet Venus on the horizon.
