For ten months of the year mature bull bison will stay together in small groups, foraging for food, resting and moving to greener pastures in relative peace, like best friends, but when breeding season starts, it’s a different story. As with all ungulates, fights occur when evenly match competitors can’t discourage the other with displays of dominance. They use all of their senses, sight, sound, smell and lastly, touch with brute force. Each bull can weigh-in at one ton, and injury often occurs in fights that last only a few minutes or seconds.
