He stayed on the opposite side of the creek and walked up its bank to the left. When the wolf was directly across from the elk he paused again and looked at me, then stepped boldly into the water. After just a few yards he was able to touch the body and began tugging on the front shoulder, to confirm the status of death, then climbed on top and started feeding.
